Theodore N. “Ted” Naftal, Sr., 74, of Naples died March 2, 2010. Born in Niagara Falls, NY, son of Manny and Charlotte Naftal, the family moved to Miami when Ted was five years old. Growing up in Miami gave Ted the opportunity to learn south Florida wild life. He caught snakes and sold them to the Miami Serpentarium for their venom. He became part of the “act” at the Miami Seaquarium wearing the diving helmet and feeding the fish. Ted began fishing the waters of southwest Florida as a teenager. He became a fishing guide in Miami and moved his charter business to the Naples/Marco area in the 50’s. He was well known as “Captain Ted” and continued guiding until his recent illness. Ted will be dearly missed by his family and friends including sons, Teddy (Nancy) of Marco Island and Dwain (Simone) of Goodland, daughter, Deanna (Eric) Williams of Vero Beach; grandchildren, Dylan and Cheyenne Naftal, Joshua and Justin Grimm, Savannah and Dylan Williams; great grandchildren, Lane, Morgan, Logan and Mason; brother, Jerry (Bobbie); sister, Lee Diffenderfer; and many nephews and nieces including, Jerry, Jr., Terry, Eugenia, and Susie.
