Charles John Flanagan, 96 of Naples died on Sunday, March 7, 2010 at Avow Hospice. He had been a resident of Naples since 1993.
He was born in County Tyrone, Ireland on June 19, 1913 and immigrated to the United States at the age of 13, settling in Manhattan with his late parents, Francis and Elizabeth (Quinn) Flanagan. They later moved to Woodside in Queens, New York and then to Riveredge and Lakehurst, New Jersey. Mr. Flanagan served in the United States Navy during WW II.
Following his retirement from the Metropolitan Museum of Arts in New York City, both he and his wife Margaret moved to Naples, where they were members of St. William Catholic Church.
Survived by his beloved wife of 73 years, Margaret (Kiesel) Flanagan, son Francis George Flanagan, daughters-in-law, Catherine A. Flanagan and Linda Mullen, brother-in-law, Earl Kiesel and his wife Barbara, three grandchildren, Corinne, Jennifer and John Flanagan, Jr; great grandchildren, Connor, Michael and Daniel. He was preceded in death by his son, John Charles Flanagan, sister, Elizabeth Shares and brother Francis Flanagan.
Visitation on Wednesday, March 10th from 6:00 -8:00 p.m. at the Fuller Funeral Home, 1625 Pine Ridge Road, Naples. A Mass of Christian burial will be held on Thursday, March 11th at 10:00 a.m. at St. William Catholic Church, 750 Seagate Dr. Naples. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Entombment will follow at Naples Memorial Gardens.
